A week after student activists took over the Kimmel Center, dialogue is beginning to address the issues that occurred during the 40-hour occupation.

At an event hosted by NYU's Queer Union and SHADES and held at the LGBT offices in the Kimmel Center last night, students tackled discussion of the actions carried out by Take Back NYU.

Five TBNYU members were at the meeting, including CAS Senator and senior Caitlin Boehne.

The meeting was divided into three parts: a mediated discussion, a Q-and-A session, and an address to what happened to LSP sophomore Anna P. Mullen and Gallatin junior Hayden Dunham, two Queer Union members who were suspended for their participation in the occupation.

Prior to the Q-and-A part of the evening, attendees were given copies of the 13 demands TBNYU made during the protest. These copies were deconstructed and color-coded. Participants wrote questions and comments, and placed them into bowls.

Discussion leaders called for a safe space to discuss the issues TBNYU faces on campus following the occupation.

In the past, the Queer Union has helped TBNYU in various capacities, including distributing flyers and manning tables at events.

'This is first time we [freshmen] ever encountered Take Back NYU and their demands,' said a freshman participant who was granted anonymity to protect her identity. 'What I ended up hearing from a lot of my friends is that there were too many demands. If it weren't for that, I would have been in there.'
